Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony, conducted a site visit to the Enmore Regional Hospital construction site on the East Coast of Demerara. The hospital, once completed, is set to transform healthcare access for residents in Enmore and surrounding communities, offering advanced medical services that previously required travel to Georgetown.
In a brief interview during the visit, Dr. Anthony spoke of the significance of the project. “This hospital will have a 24-hour Accident and Emergency Unit, along with diagnostic facilities, including ultrasound, X-rays, and CT scans. Additionally, we will have a fully operational 24-hour laboratory,” he said.
The facility is designed to handle a wide range of medical procedures and stabilize patients, reducing the pressure on Georgetown Public Hospital. While complex cases may still need to be transferred to Georgetown, most routine procedures will be performed at Enmore, allowing the local population to receive quality care closer to home.
Construction of the hospital is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, with the installation of medical equipment beginning in early December. Dr. Anthony shared that high-quality Philips CT scans, Siemens X-rays, and lab equipment sourced through an arrangement with Sinopharm will outfit the facility.
“We are aiming to roll out services to the public by March or April next year,” Dr. Anthony stated, noting that the hospital will be fully operational in 2025.
This new healthcare hub will not only enhance the quality of medical services available on the East Coast but will also play a critical role in reducing overcrowding at Georgetown’s main hospital, providing timely and efficient care for residents.
