Firefighters are currently battling a fire at the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) Power Plant in Diamond, East Bank Demerara, after a generator reportedly caught fire earlier today.
Upon their arrival, emergency crews were faced with a potentially dangerous situation as chemical and fuel storage areas, along with gas cylinders, were at risk of ignition. However, swift action by the Fire Service successfully contained the blaze to a single building.
Efforts to fully extinguish the fire are ongoing, and officials are closely monitoring the site to prevent any further escalation. No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
