29-year-old Rodley Mathoo at Queen Mary University in London.
For the first time, a Guyanese law student from the Hugh Wooding Law School will represent the institution at Queen Mary University in London.
According to a statement from the Guyana Jurisdictional Committee (GJC) of the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago, 29-year-old Rodley Mathoo has been selected and is currently in the United Kingdom as one of two students representing the law school.
The exchange program, which runs from October 18th to 28th, is a partnership between the Hugh Wooding Law School and Queen Mary University of London. The News Desk understands that the program allows two students from Hugh Wooding Law School to participate in a week of classes and legal training at the London-based university every other academic year.
The statement noted, “The exchange program is extremely competitive, and students are selected based on their academic performance and only after passing a rigorous application and interview process.”
Mr. Mathoo graduated with distinction from the University of Guyana’s law program in 2023 and also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the same institution. He is currently in his final year at the Hugh Wooding Law School, pursuing the Legal Education Certificate (LEC), and is also completing an online Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law at the University of East London.
In addition to his academic achievements, Mr. Mathoo serves as President of the Guyana Jurisdictional Committee at Hugh Wooding Law School and as Vice President of the Law School’s Hindu Society.
“The Guyana Jurisdictional Committee of the Hugh Wooding Law School takes this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Mathoo on displaying exemplary academic standards and for representing the Guyanese student body at the law school with distinction,” the GJC’s statement added.
The GJC is an official student body representing the interests of Guyanese students pursuing the Legal Education Certificate at the Trinidad-based law school. It is currently led by Mr. Mathoo and Ms. Ruth Wilson, along with several executive members.
