
Police have launched an investigation into a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred on the morning of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at approximately 06:30 hours on the Canje Bridge, East Canje, Berbice.
The accident involved two motor cars: #PAC 4229, owned by Ken Summa of Lot 234 Fort Ordinance and driven by Jerome King, 18, of Lot 723 Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme; and #PWW 4229, owned by Doochand Somra of Lot 46, No. 73 Village, and driven by Ganesh Singh, 48, of Lot 617 Port Mourant, Corentyne.
Both drivers are licensed and sustained injuries as a result of the collision. Jerome King, of African descent, suffered a fractured right leg and left shoulder, while Ganesh Singh, of mixed ancestry, sustained a fractured right hand. Both men were admitted to Ward 8 of the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where they are currently listed in stable condition.
The vehicles were also carrying two female passengers at the time of the accident: Babita Ramcham, 48, of No. 73 Village, and Dhanwantie Somra, 26, of No. 72 Village—both of Indian descent. They were extracted from the wreckage by EMT personnel and public-spirited citizens, and transported to the hospital.
Dhanwantie Somra was treated for cuts and bruises and later discharged, while Babita Ramcham was admitted to Ward 5 for treatment of a fractured right leg.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
