A late-night accident along the Berbice River Bridge Access Road at Palmyra, East Canje Berbice, left four people injured after the driver of a motor car lost control and crashed into a culvert.
The incident occurred around 11:59 p.m. on Monday and involved motor car PAJ 1625, driven by 57-year-old Holford Gordon of Martin Luther Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam. He was travelling with three passengers: 30-year-old Woneika Hickens and 7-year-old Destroy Reid, both of Islington Village, East Bank Berbice, and 66-year-old Evalin Agard of South Ozone Park, New York.
According to reports, the vehicle was heading east at a fast rate when the driver lost control and slammed into a culvert on the southern side of the roadway. Public-spirited citizens and EMT personnel assisted in removing the injured occupants from the vehicle. All four victims were conscious when they were taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

Doctors treated and admitted Gordon for a dislocated pelvis. Seven-year-old Reid was admitted to the Paediatric Ward with fractures to both legs. Agard was admitted to the Female Ward with a fractured right arm and left leg, while Hickens remained in the Accident and Emergency Unit receiving treatment for soft-tissue injuries.
The accident was reported shortly after midnight on Tuesday. Investigators later visited the scene and located a nearby CCTV camera, which is being reviewed. The car has been lodged at the Central Police Station for mechanical examination, and further statements and measurements are expected to be taken.
