
In a step towards strengthening and advancing Distance Education in Guyana, the Guyana Learning Channel (GLC) launched six innovative digital channels, marking a major milestone in the evolution of broadcasting in Guyana.
The event was held at the National Track and Field Center, Leonora, West Coast Demerara where the distribution of the Guyana Learning Channel’s Digital Television Box also commenced.
Delivering remarks at the launch, His Excellency, Dr. Irfaan Ali, President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana these digital channels will be complementing the Guyana Digital School so the children of Guyana can learn in an environment they will have to operate in. He explained that Guyana is moving towards digital operations.

“In five years from now or less, your children in a completely new environment, an environment that is highly digitized, an environment in which Artificial Intelligence will be playing the lead role and humans will be playing a more supervisory and analytical role… So this is a very important advantage that the Ministry of Education is planning for in advancing of what the country’s development will look like and what the country’s electronic platform will look like.”
Meanwhile, the Honourable Minister said that the aim of the Guyana Learning Channel is to “make education available to everyone equally outside of the classroom”. She noted that this initiative underscores the Ministry of Education’s commitment to expanding access to quality education throughout Guyana, ensuring every household can benefit from innovative digital learning experiences.

Director of the Guyana Learning Channel, Ms. Annieshaw Mohamed, stated that “this digital breakthrough brings a richer, clearer, and more interactive viewing experience, tailored. The expanded digital channel lineup comprises six distinct channels, each tailored to a specific audience and purpose.”
The channels include:
• GLC Junior (Channel 24-52): A channel for preschoolers that offers engaging stories, nursery rhymes, and interactive early learning activities designed to spark creativity and curiosity.
• GLC Elementary (Channel 24-32): Tailored for primary students, this channel combines academic instruction, scientific exploration, and interactive games to create an engaging educational experience.
• GLC Teen (Channel 24-48): This channel, targeted at secondary students, provides exam preparation resources, competitive challenges, and discussions on topics relevant to young minds.
• GLC Plus (Channel 24-44): A celebration of Guyanese culture, history, folklore, and national development, bringing the nation’s past, present, and future to life.
• GLC Discover (Channel 24-40): A hub for science, industry insights, career exploration, and skill development, encouraging learners to look beyond traditional classrooms.
• GLC Elevate (Channel 24-36): Focused on adult learners, this channel offers literacy programs, vocational training, DIY skills, and opportunities for personal development.

To ensure that every household can access these enhanced digital channels, GLC is also distributing its GLC Digital TV boxes or ATSC Tuner Device. These devices allow viewers with non-digital television sets, which may not be compatible with the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) standard, to receive superior digital signals. Digital TV offers clearer picture quality, improved sound, and a broader array of channel options compared to analog TV.
