Public servants and pensioners are set to be among the first recipients of the $100,000 cash grant, to be distributed by the end of November, President Dr. Irfaan Ali announced. Speaking on the inaugural episode of “In The Seat,” President Ali shared that the grant distribution will be extended to all adult citizens of Guyana.
“Before the end of the month, the easier data sets, such as public sector employees and pensioners, will be the first to receive their payments,” President Ali explained, noting that the government has crafted a delivery mechanism aimed at ensuring the grant reaches all eligible citizens, primarily through cheque distribution.
President Ali emphasized that public sector employees and pensioners are already part of established data sets, which will streamline the initial payment process. For other groups, the government has mobilized teams to efficiently gather the necessary data. Training is underway for personnel who will work with regional offices, beginning with Region Nine this weekend. Teams will register residents using tablets to directly input data into the system.
“This approach ensures built-in accountability, transparency, and engagement at both regional and national levels,” Dr. Ali underscored. The government’s use of an electronic data-gathering system is intended to make the process efficient and accurate across all regions.
The initiative for a $100,000 grant for every adult Guyanese follows feedback from citizens, who had expressed concerns about possibly being excluded from the previously announced $200,000 per household distribution. In response, the government adopted a more inclusive approach, opting to provide $100,000 to every citizen aged 18 and above.
President Ali highlighted that this decision reflects the government’s commitment to listening to citizens and adjusting policies to better serve them. “By staying plugged into the realities our people face, we were able to adjust our approach to one that brought greater satisfaction and fairness,” he concluded.
