Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d), the Honourable Mark Phillips encouraged the graduating class of 2023 from the University of Guyana School of Dentistry to “serve with dedication” as they embark on their careers as dental professionals.
He made the remarks during the keynote address at the university’s White Coat Ceremony held at the Ramada Georgetown Princess Hotel on Saturday evening.
In his speech, Prime Minister Phillips noted that the graduates are entering the field at a time when Guyana is investing heavily in medical facilities. He urged them to participate in introducing new dental techniques, and equipment and to transform dental care and awareness in the country.
He advised the graduates to “Approach every situation, every task, every dental task, simple or complex, professionally and remember your commitment to serve to make decisions and solve the problems you will encounter daily in your profession.”
He also emphasised the importance of upholding ethical standards and becoming agents of change, encouraging graduates to “stride forward” and serve as examples for future dental professionals.
The Prime Minister also expressed immeasurable pride in the achievements of the graduates and urged them to reflect on the satisfaction felt by their teachers, colleagues, and families who supported them throughout their journey.
“As you celebrate this milestone, take a moment to express gratitude to those who contributed to your success.”
In closing, He told the graduates that while challenges lay ahead and their learning continues, they should maintain confidence, compassion and positivity as they step into their careers.
