Police are investigating a report of an alleged shooting incident committed on Andra Stewart, a 34-year-old unemployed male resident of Guyhoc Park and Fifth Street, Alberttown and Lidj Grant, a 22-year-old construction worker from ‘A’ Field, Sophia, which occurred at about 21:45hrs last night (2025/05/20).
Two unknown males armed with handguns, dressed in dark-coloured clothing and wearing face masks, are alleged to have carried out the shooting.
Police visited the scene at about 22:00hrs last night. According to the victims, on the date and time mentioned, they were riding two separate motorcycles heading North in ‘A’ Field Sophia, in the vicinity of Mercy Wing Vocational Centre, when the two suspects rode up to them on a motorcycle (registration number unknown) and began to discharge several rounds in their direction.
The victims said they jumped off their motorcycles and ran behind a truck which was parked on the parapet of the street. The suspects continued riding their motorcycle and made good their escape.
Stewart received a gunshot wound to the right side lower back, and Grant received a gunshot wound to the right side upper back. They were taken to a city hospital by public-spirited citizens where they were seen and examined by a doctor and admitted as patients, both in stable condition.
The scene was processed by ranks of the Crime Lab CID HQ, and fifteen (15) suspected 9mm spent shells were found. Several persons were questioned, and efforts were made to locate the suspects, but without success.
CCTV cameras in the area captured the scene, and investigators observed that it was an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the victims. The victims’ hands were swabbed for gunpowder residue. Investigations are ongoing.
