Alana Johnson who is representing the people of constituency No. 1 which comprises the communities of No. 4 and No. 5 villages in Region Five – Mahaica Berbice, told scores of residents of West Coast Berbice during a public meeting on Monday that she is proud to now represent a party that is devoted to progress, empowerment and one that is on the move.

She revealed that at the last Local Government Election, she was standing with the A Partnership for National Unity APNU. The constituency representative noted that under the APNU leadership, there were no developments within her constituency, and that contributed to her decision to switch from the APNU to the Peoples Progressive Party Civic PPP/c.

She said “if I can jump ship, everybody else can jump ship” to loud applause by scores in attendance at the meeting. The PPP/c candidate added that for too long her community has been left behind by the APNU/ AFC coalition when that party was in Government while highlighting the fact that APNU councilors have always been in the habit of breaking up the council’s meetings at the Neighbourhood Democratic Council NDC and preventing fruitful discussions for progress and development.

She said this has to change especially for the youths to benefit while reiterating that this change can only happen by residents going out on the 12th of June and casting their votes where it matters and voting for the People’s Progressive Party.

“What’s in my cup, stays in my cup… I am proud to stand here and wear this jersey… We will create history in No. 5 and No. 4.”

Several other constituency representatives spoke at the meeting as well as the Minister of Public Service, Sonia Parag who reminded the gathering of why it is important to vote for the PPP/c next Monday. She told those in attendance of the party’s track record which she said is one of development across the country.

Minister of Public Service – Sonia Parag

Minister Parag added that for decades the country experience oppression at the hands of the Peoples National Congress PNC and so the PPP/c is the party to vote for at the Local Government Election. “This is only party that embrace our ethnic diversity in this country, I want to warmly welcome and to say thank you to all of you who are out here for giving us your unwavering support but to also to say to those who have come across, we welcome you with open arms and we know that you are going to stay for the long haul.”

General Secretary of thePPP/c, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo while delivering the featured address reminded the crowd of the harsh measures that were implemented under the APNU during their term in office, most of which he said had to be corrected when the PPP/c took office in 2021.

General Secretary of the PPP/C – Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo

According to Jagdeo, the focus now is to continue to deliver on the promises made to citizens by his administration among which include the construction of state of art hospitals with modernized facilities, construction of new roads, expansion of the highways to four lanes, training opportunities, employment opportunities, building of new bridges, and a whole host of other developmental projects across the country.

“The Peoples Progressive Party will stand behind you all along the way. You will be supported in your communities and everywhere else, you’re dealing with a trustworthy party, you’re dealing with a party that has strength as you can see across this country” he added.

He said that the PPP/c stands on its track records and therefore encouraged supporters to vote “on the basis of track record and anytime people vote on track record in this country, the PPP will have an overwhelming landslide everywhere across Guyana”
