Police are investigating a traffic accident that occurred at approximately 10:45 AM today (Thursday, February 6, 2025) on the Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara. The accident involved a motor lorry #GHH 5392, driven by 28-year-old Atash Singh of #71 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, and a motor car #PYY 6812, driven by 31-year-old Jameela Kelvin of Norton Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown.
According to police reports, the lorry was traveling east along the northern carriageway of Lusignan Public Road at a high speed when Singh lost control of the vehicle. The lorry first collided with a Guyana Power and Light (GPL) utility pole in the center of the road before crashing into Kelvin’s car, which was heading west along the southern carriageway. The impact forced the lorry into a house post on the roadside, causing further damage.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) from the Georgetown Public Hospital were quickly dispatched to the scene. Both Singh and Kelvin were found conscious and were transported to the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit for medical evaluation.
Authorities are continuing their investigations into the cause of the accident.
