A 26-year-old man, identified as Ronaldo Peters, was allegedly shot and killed by a police rank on Monday afternoon in the vicinity of the One Mile Primary School, Buckville, Linden.
According to an official police report, on Monday, April 7, 2025, at about 17:30 hrs, a Police Sergeant attached to the Wismar Police Station received information that Peters, who was wanted for questioning in relation to an ongoing investigation, was seen at Shabba Bar in One Mile, Wismar, Linden.
In response, the Sergeant and a party of ranks, all dressed in uniform, proceeded to the location. The Sergeant was armed with a 9mm service pistol, while another rank carried a .38 service revolver.
Upon arrival at the location, Peters was reportedly spotted by the ranks. It is alleged that upon seeing the police, he attempted to flee and tried to scale a nearby fence. The Sergeant further alleged that he managed to pull Peters off the fence, and during the process of subduing him, his service pistol—held in his right hand—discharged, striking Peters.
Peters was immediately transported to the Mackenzie Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. A medical examination revealed a single circular wound on the right side of his lower abdomen.
His body was later escorted to the Pensioners Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The Sergeant involved in the incident is currently under close arrest and has been escorted to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU). The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
The incident has triggered public concern and renewed calls for a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation.
