Police are investigating the alleged murder of 30-year-old Toralpher Simon Harry, a porter attached to the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) and resident of Lot 24 Best Village (Foreshore), West Coast Demerara. The incident occurred around 03:00 hrs on Sunday, August 24, 2025, on the Vreed-en-Hoop Public Road in the vicinity of Bright Star Chinese Restaurant.
Reports indicate that Harry, of mixed ancestry, was in the company of his friend, 30-year-old Naipaul Sukhdeo, as they were heading home after attending a Car and Bike Show at the Leonora National Stadium. On their way, they stopped at a hot-dog stall opposite the restaurant.
While ordering, Harry reportedly became engaged in an argument with an unidentified Venezuelan national. The altercation quickly escalated into a scuffle, which moved across the roadway towards the Dalga Luck Chinese Restaurant. Witnesses said the suspect was armed with a knife.
In an attempt to defend himself, Harry removed his belt and tried to fight off the suspect. However, during the struggle, he ran across to the northern side of the road, where he began bleeding heavily from the neck before collapsing in front of a nearby yard.
The suspect then boarded a waiting minibus near the hot-dog stall and escaped eastward in the direction of the Vreed-en-Hoop junction.
Sukhdeo rushed to his friend’s aid and discovered a stab wound to Harry’s neck. He was immediately transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Crime scene investigators recovered a bloodstained knife blade without a handle and a brown belt at the scene. The area was canvassed for CCTV cameras, and several were identified within close proximity of the incident.
The deceased’s body, which bore a suspected stab wound to the left side of the neck, is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, who is said to be a Venezuelan national.
