The “Men on Mission” initiative, spearheaded by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, took a major step forward in its mission to uplift and empower young people with the launch of its third Youth Empowerment and Mentorship Programme in Region Six on Saturday. This transformative initiative is aimed at fostering personal development and leadership among youth across the country.
The program will be implemented in key locations across Region Six, including Angoy’s Avenue in New Amsterdam, the Civic Center in Hampshire, and the Line Path Community Center on the Corentyne. Over 300 young people are expected to benefit from this empowerment program, which provides mentorship, skills development, and social guidance.
Speaking at the launch, Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon. Anand Persaud, emphasized the national importance of the initiative. He explained that it is designed to help guide and mentor young people, equipping them with the skills and values necessary for personal and community success.
Addressing the participants, Minister Persaud urged them to embrace the opportunity with passion and dedication. “Over the next few days, you will gain skills that will help you succeed in your communities and homes. You will learn how to be role models in Region Six, and how to tackle community projects and social issues head-on,” he said. He further stressed that the youth are central to the nation’s future, making this initiative a crucial investment in their growth and leadership potential.
Regional Executive Officer Narindra Persaud echoed the Minister’s sentiments, thanking the government for bringing the program to Region Six. He highlighted its potential to instill discipline and respect among the youth, both in their interactions with peers and elders. He encouraged participants to fully engage with the program, noting the significant contributions from the government and private sector to make the initiative a success.
The Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce also lent its support, with Adrian Anamayah representing the business community. His presence demonstrated the wide-reaching support the program has garnered from key stakeholders.
The Men on Mission’s Youth Empowerment and Mentorship Programme continues to pave the way for a brighter future for Guyana’s young people, encouraging them to take ownership of their futures and become positive agents of change in their communities.
