This afternoon, the Honourable Bishop Juan Edghill, Minister of Public Works, conducted a site visit at Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara, where demolition work is actively underway in preparation for the construction of the New Demerara River Bridge.
The purpose of Minister Edghill’s visit was to ensure that the demolition process is progressing smoothly, setting the stage for the next phase of construction. Clearing this area is essential for establishing the right of way, allowing contractors to work on the precise alignment of the bridge, which will span the Demerara River and enhance regional connectivity.
Highlighting the urgency of meeting project timelines, Minister Edghill stated, “The work must go on. By staying on schedule, the government is committed to delivering this crucial infrastructure to the public as quickly as possible, ensuring that the bridge’s benefits are felt without unnecessary delays.”
The New Demerara River Bridge is a transformative infrastructure project designed to improve connectivity between the East and West Banks of Demerara. It aims to reduce traffic congestion and stimulate economic growth in the region. This modern, multi-lane bridge will replace the existing structure, providing a more efficient and safer route for commuters and businesses alike.
