The Minister of Agriculture Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha, M.P., commissioned the newly rehabilitated Andrews Pump Station on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two earlier today.
The facility, upgraded at a cost of approximately $528 million, is now equipped with two fixed 150-cusec pumps capable of draining 13,454 gallons of water per minute.
The pump station is set to significantly impact the region’s agricultural sector, benefiting over 5,712 acres of farmland, primarily rice fields, which form the backbone of Region Two’s economy.
Speaking at the commissioning, Minister Mustapha described the project as a key milestone for the region’s agricultural and economic development. He emphasized that the investment reflects the PPP/C Government’s commitment to supporting farmers and communities that depend on reliable drainage and irrigation systems for their livelihoods.
The Andrews Pump Station is expected to bolster the region’s resilience against flooding, ensuring sustained agricultural output and improved living standards for farmers and residents.
