The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport is thrilled to announce its support for the upcoming international boxing event set to take place on December 28th at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. This highly anticipated event will feature boxing sensation Elton Dharry in a pre-World Title bout, drawing national and international attention to Guyana’s dynamic boxing program.
This event will bring together an exciting lineup of top talent, including popular fighters Olympic star Keevin Allicock and Dexter Wray. Due to the immense popularity of the fighters and the magnitude of the matchups, the Ministry deemed the Sports Hall the perfect venue to host this event.
Minister of Sport Charles Ramson expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting the positive impact that boxing can have on Guyana’s image as a premier destination for sports and major events. “Boxing is a globally recognized sport that draws significant attention, and with top-ranked Guyanese boxers, it puts the spotlight on our potential for sports tourism. Elton’s upcoming shot at a World Title next February is a source of pride for us, and the government is committed to supporting him and the development of boxing,” stated Minister Ramson.
Peter Abdool, President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Guyana’s historic legacy in boxing. “Guyana has consistently produced world-class fighters at one point more World Titles per capita than any other country. Elton Dharry’s scheduled World Title shot here in Guyana next April is a testament to this. This after-Christmas event offers a preview of what’s to come, with the excitement building toward his World Title fight.”
The bouts will commence at 7:00 pm with four exciting amateur bouts organized by the Guyana Boxing Association, followed by a series of professional matches featuring Guyana’s most celebrated boxing talent.
The event, sanctioned by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and Nal’ Nest, is presented by Elton Dharry Promotions and promoted by Nexgen Global Promotions.
