The Ministry of Health this morning officially commissioned a $38 million health center at Chesney, Corentyne, marking a significant step in improving healthcare access for residents in the Chesney Housing Scheme and surrounding communities.
This facility is set to bring much-needed relief to residents who previously had to travel long distances to receive medical services. The new health center is fully equipped with a pharmacy, vaccination room, doctors’ consultation room, nurses’ station, kitchen, and washroom facilities, among other amenities, ensuring that comprehensive healthcare is delivered efficiently.
During the commissioning ceremony, Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony delivered the feature address, highlighting the importance of the facility in the ministry’s efforts to enhance healthcare delivery across the country. Dr. Anthony emphasized that this health center is the third to be commissioned in the year so far, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure.
He further noted the government’s significant investments in modern healthcare facilities across Region Six, including the new regional hospital at Number 75 Village and another in New Amsterdam.
Regional Chairman, David Armogan, also spoke at the event, reinforcing the government’s dedication to taking healthcare services directly to communities. He said the opening of this health center is a testament to the Government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and that continuous efforts will be made to build similar facilities wherever there is a need so that no community is left behind.
The Chesney Health Center will be staffed by a medic and several nurses, who will provide care for patients with a range of medical needs, including chronic illnesses. The new facility is expected to significantly reduce the burden on larger regional hospitals by offering essential services close to home for many residents.
