The young mother who was critically injured in a tragic hit-and-run accident at Line Path, Corentyne, has died just days after losing her nine-month-old baby in the same incident.
Nineteen-year-old Kavita Bedesee succumbed to her injuries today while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital. Her passing comes as a devastating blow to her family, who were already mourning the death of her daughter, Eli Surujnarine.
The accident occurred around 18:30 hrs on Sunday, March 2, 2025, when a white Fielder wagon struck an electric cycle on which Kavita, her baby, and the child’s father 17-year-old Tushan Surujnarine were traveling.

Investigations revealed that Tushan was riding the electric cycle north along the western side of Line Path Road when he suddenly felt an impact on the rear of the vehicle, causing all three occupants to be thrown onto the roadway.
They were found in an unconscious state and rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital, before being transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, and later to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Tragically, baby Eli did not survive, succumbing to her injuries around 09:45 hrs on Monday, March 3.
With Kavita’s passing, the family has now lost both mother and child in the heartbreaking crash. Meanwhile, police have since located the vehicle involved, but the driver remains at large. Investigations are ongoing.
