Police have confirmed that 22-year-old Stacy Walton, a businesswoman of Alexander Street, New Amsterdam, had been imbibing alcohol before the fatal accident that claimed her life early Friday morning.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 01:50 hrs on June 20, 2025, along the No. 7 Public Road, East Berbice. Walton was reportedly driving motor car #PAG 2279, owned by Alfred De Jonge of New Amsterdam, when she lost control of the vehicle, which careened off the road and into a trench along the southern side.
According to investigators, Walton was seen consuming alcohol earlier in the evening before getting behind the wheel. She was proceeding west along the southern lane of the roadway when the accident occurred. Reports indicate that she was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Public-spirited citizens discovered the partially submerged vehicle and quickly pulled Walton from the wreckage in an unconscious state. She was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Her body has since been taken to the hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations into the fatal crash are ongoing.
