Police are investigating an alleged Robbery Under Arms committed on Zhenfa, a Chinese national and businessman from Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara. The robbery occurred on Friday, October 25, 2024, around 21:05 hours at the An Sheng Supermarket, located at Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
The items stolen during the robbery include three bottles of Hennessy valued at G$60,000.00, G$150,000.00 in Digicel and GTT phone cards, and G$500,000.00 in cash.
The robbery was allegedly carried out by three identifiable males, all of African descent. The first suspect was described as slim-built, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a long-sleeved black and white hoodie, long black pants, and a face mask, armed with a handgun. The second suspect, also slim-built, was around 5 feet 8 inches tall and wore a blue T-shirt, short grey jeans, and a pink cloth mask. The third suspect, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, wore a white and black hoodie.
At around 21:40 hours, a team of officers from Timehri Police Station visited the scene. Investigations revealed that Zhenfa, assisted by several staff members, was preparing to close the supermarket when the three suspects entered. The armed male held the staff and customers at gunpoint, standing guard at the northern door, while the other two suspects went behind the cashier counter. They took the money, phone cards from the cash register, and bottles of Hennessy from the shelf.
As public-spirited citizens came to their aid, the suspects fled, running eastward and discharging several rounds in the air to facilitate their escape.
During searches in the area, police arrested Jason Richard, a 28-year-old male from Lot 250 Independent Boulevard, Albouystown. He was found wearing clothing matching the description from CCTV footage. The other two suspects remain at large, and police are actively pursuing further leads.
Investigations are ongoing.
