A probe has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the cause of a fire that completely destroyed the water ambulance plying the Orealla/ Siparuta to Corriverton route.
The incident took place just after 17 hours today while a nurse along with several residents from the two riverine communities were making their way back to Orealla/ Siparuta after taking an emergency case to the Skeldon Hospital earlier in the day.
Speaking with The News Desk, one of the occupants of the ambulance disclosed that one of the men who worked on the ambulance went to inspect the deck of the vessel. When he opened the door to the deck, he was greeted with large flames that caught his arms, neck, and face.
The injured man has been rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital by a vessel that was passing and rendered assistance. The other occupants left unharmed.
Investigations are ongoing.
