29-year-old Mark Barclay of Orealla up the Corentyne River was sentenced to three years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges when he appeared before Magistrate Tuanna Hardy at the No. 51 Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Barclay admitted to possession of 18 grams of cannabis and 131 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. His arrest followed an operation conducted by officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) at a residence in Orealla Village, Region 6 earlier in the week, where a significant quantity of narcotics was uncovered.

In connection with the bust, two other individuals from the area were also arrested. They have since been released on bail as investigations continue.
CANU has reaffirmed its commitment to preventing the flow of illegal drugs throughout the country, stating that it will continue to work diligently to uphold its mandate and ensure the safety and well-being of communities.
