The Department of Education, in collaboration with the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Six, held its annual award ceremony earlier today to honor the region’s top-performing students and long-serving educators. The event recognized achievements in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams, the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) during the 2023 and 2024 period and paid tribute to teachers who have dedicated over 30 years of service to the education sector.
Delivering the keynote address, Senior Minister within the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh, highlighted the government’s substantial investments in the education sector. He noted that these investments have contributed to the remarkable academic successes seen across the country.

Region Six Chairman, David Armogan, expressed his pride in the ceremony’s mission to celebrate outstanding achievements. He praised the students who excelled in both CSEC and NGSA exams and honored teachers for their long-standing dedication to the education system.
“𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐮𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐞, 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲,” Armogan noted. He also urged parents to remain involved in their children’s education, emphasizing that many successful students have parents who actively support their academic efforts.
Armogan reiterated the government’s efforts to provide avenues for success, from technical and vocational training to plans for free tertiary education at the University of Guyana.
Narindra Persaud, the Regional Executive Officer, also addressed the gathering, congratulating the awardees and commending the students for their hard work. “𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬’ 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞,” Persaud stated. He assured attendees that the government continues to prioritize the delivery of quality education across Guyana, which is reflected in the outstanding results of the students.
The ceremony not only recognized academic excellence but also served as a reminder of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that every Guyanese has the opportunity to succeed.
Regional Vice Chairman, Zamal Hussain and Regional Education Officer, Sattish Udit were present at the event.
