Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at around 12:55 hrs today (Wednesday) on Scottsburg Public Road in Corentyne Berbice, involving Motor Van #GTT 3548 driven by a 23-year-old of Reliance, East Canje, Berbice, and motorcycle #CG 8848, ‘driven’ by David Rose (now deceased), a 67-year-old of Springlands, Corentyne Berbice. A 25-year-old female was also on the motorcycle (pillion rider).
Investigations so far indicate that the motorcycle (#CG 8848) was proceeding North along the Western drive lane while the motor van (# GTT 3548) was also proceeding in the same direction behind the motorcycle. The driver of the motor van alleges that the motorcyclist made a sudden right turn on the road into the van’s path.
As a result of the collision, both the motorcyclist and pillion rider fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries to their bodies. They were both picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to Skeldon Public Hospital, where the motorcyclist (David Rose) was pronounced dead, and the pillion rider (Shenezia Rose) is presently receiving medical attention.
The motor van driver is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
