Initial investigations revealed that motor car PKK 1010 was proceeding west along the southern driving lane of Palmyra Public Road when the driver attempted to turn south into Percy Smith Street. At the same time, motor cycle MR 1, which was also travelling in the same direction with the rider wearing his safety helmet, was approaching from the rear and attempting to overtake. During the overtaking manoeuvre, the motor cyclist reportedly lost control and collided with the right rear portion of motor car PKK 1010.
The motorcycle then collided head-on with motor car PAE 9749, which was proceeding east along the northern driving lane. As a result of the impact, motor car PAE 9749 lost control and collided with a utility pole on the northern grass parapet.
Following the collision, the motor cyclist fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries about his body. He was picked up in a semi-conscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was examined and treated by a doctor on duty. He remains a patient at the hospital and his condition is described as stable but serious.
