Police are still looking for 29-year-old David Josiah, the suspect involved in the alleged incident which occurred on 2023-10-08 at about 23:50 hrs at Parika Facade, East Bank Essequibo. Josiah is accused of beating and injuring his four-year-old son, Travis Morrison.
Police said in a statement that David Josiah went home after imbibing on the road. He then became involved in a heated argument with his common-law partner, Rebecca Premdas, age 32. As a result, they began fighting in the presence of 4-year-old Travis and his elder brother, Kevin Morrison, which caused them to run out of the home to seek help.
On seeing them running away, Josiah ran behind them and managed to hold on to Travis, where he dealt him several blows to his body and head. He then made good his escape.
On 2023-10-09 at about 08:00 hrs, Rebecca Premdas went to Parika Police Station with her son Travis, where she reported that her son had fallen down the previous night and that David never hit him. However, she was issued a medical form to seek medical attention for herself and her child. At about 16:00 hrs, checks were made in Parika Facade for the suspect, but he was not contacted. Several persons were questioned, and useful information was received. Continued efforts are being made to locate the suspect, whose whereabouts are so far unknown. No photos were obtained or any other address for him.
On 2023-10-10, at about 10:00 hrs, Rebecca Premdas returned to the Police Station, where she informed the Police that her son was admitted as a patient at West Demerara Regional Hospital, awaiting results from a CT scan. As a result, a Detective made checks at the said medical institution, where this was confirmed.
On 2023-10-11, at about 10:30 hrs, Rebecca Premdas further updated Ranks at Parika Police Station that her son suffered a fractured skull and was still hospitalised.
Statements were taken, and the suspect is yet to be arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
