The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has announced the successful completion of the Emergency Vehicle Obstacle Course (EVOC) training by five of its ranks. The training was conducted at the New York Police Department (NYPD) Academy in Bloomfield, Brooklyn, from November 11 to 14, 2024.
Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken welcomed the officers back to Guyana, commending their achievement and emphasizing the significance of their new skills in enhancing local policing efforts. The ranks who participated represent various departments of the GPF, including the Presidential Guard, Police Regional Division #7, and Police Regional Division 4 ‘A.’
The officers who earned certifications are Sergeant C. Pedro, Sergeant J. Patterson, Sergeant D. Sitaram, Sergeant K. Gordon, and Corporal E. Bowlin.
The training aimed at refining critical emergency vehicle operation skills, covering topics such as maintaining speed limits during critical scenarios, effective time management during emergencies, and safe maneuvering techniques under high-pressure conditions. A highlight of the course included advanced obstacle course driving, designed to simulate real-life situations.
As part of the program, the officers visited the NYPD Joint Operational Center in Queens, New York. This exposure provided valuable insights into the integration of modern operational functions and the efficiency of coordinated law enforcement efforts.
The GPF anticipates that the knowledge and techniques gained from this training will significantly improve its capacity to respond to emergencies and enhance public safety. The officers were commended for their dedication to professional development, with the expectation that their expertise will positively influence policing standards across Guyana.
