The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) in Region Six convened its first monthly statutory meeting with the newly constituted council, which comprises three members of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), six from We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), and twenty-one from the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).
Speaking with reporters after the meeting, newly elected Chairman Junior Basant described the session as “quite an interesting one,” noting that it was his first time not only attending an RDC meeting but also chairing one.
The primary focus of the meeting was the establishment of the various subcommittees, which will include representatives from all political parties on the council. These subcommittees will allow councillors to make meaningful contributions and recommendations to the council following their deliberations at the subcommittee level.

Basant emphasized that going forward, his expectation is for all councillors to work collaboratively for the betterment of the region. “Politics aside, elections are over, we need to work and put the people first. Region Six is a diverse region, but all persons must benefit,” he asserted.
He noted that the People’s Progressive Party/Civic administration has rolled out several measures aimed at improving the lives of citizens, and he urged councillors to ensure residents are well informed so they can position themselves to benefit from these opportunities.
“I will be working with this council to promote these initiatives and support President Dr. Ali’s vision, ensuring that the people of Region Six fully benefit and capitalize on the opportunities available to them,” Basant added.
