The cries of 25-year-old Anita Lloyd of Ankerville Block 5, Port Mourant Corentyne was to have her own home for Christmas to provide comfort for herself and children.
The mother of five has been living in a shack on a Guysuco reserve for the past eight years and although she is gainfully employed, she still could not provide a better living condition for herself and kids.
After seeing her story which was publicized by several media outlets, Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali, through his Men on Mission (MoM) programme, gifted her a perfect Christmas present – a fully-furnished house at Hampshire, Corentyne.
The Head of State said a home is an act of empowerment. He called on the community and regional government to support the family and ensure that the children always attend school.
The house was furnished by Imran and Daughters store from Rose Hall Town. Ashiek and Son Motor Supplies also gifted the family a laptop and printer to support the children’s educational activities.
President Ali was joined by Senior Minister within the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, the Honourable Dr Ashni Singh; Minister of Housing and Water, the Honourable Colin Croal and Chief of Staff Brigadier Omar Khan.
