A post-mortem examination (PM) conducted on Monday has failed to determine the cause of death of a badly decomposed body discovered on Sunday, in a grassy area along a track at No. 43 Village Seashore, Corentyne, Berbice.
The PM, which was performed by Government Pathologist Dr. V. Brijmohan and witnessed by police ranks, was inconclusive due to the advanced state of decomposition. The cause of death was listed as “uncertainable.” The remains could not be identified, as no form of identification was found on the body. However, the femur bone was extracted and will be sent for DNA profiling to assist with identification efforts.
The gruesome discovery was made by a 31-year-old fisherman of No. 35 Village, Corentyne, who was walking along the No. 43 Seashore after his fishing boat became stuck at sea due to low tide. While heading through a track toward the public road, he detected a strong stench and stumbled upon the decomposed remains.
Police investigators processed the scene and transported the body to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, after which it was placed in cold storage at Ramoo’s Funeral Home. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
