The announcement was made today during the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) annual Christmas Breakfast.
The President said that his Government will sign a two-year agreement with the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) that will see public servants’ salaries increase by 10% for 2024 retroactively to January 1st and a further increase of 8% in 2025.
The Head of State also announced increases in salaries and benefits for public servants with degrees, as well as additional allowances for the Joint Services.
The qualifications allowance will be structured as follows: $15,000 for ACCA holders, $22,000 for those with a master’s degree, and $32,000 for holders of a doctoral degree.
Increases in various categories of allowances were also announced, including for uniforms, housing allowances for public servants assigned to hinterland and riverine locations, and risk allowances. Meanwhile, duty-free concessions will also be granted to staff nurses and persons in higher positions, with priority given to individuals with the longest years of service and those who have not previously benefited from a duty-free concession.

Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d), the Honourable Mark Phillips; Minister of Home Affairs, the Honourable Robeson Benn; and other Government officials and senior members of the GPF were also at the breakfast.
