Today, His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the Chair of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) and the Chair and two members of the Public Service Appellate Tribunal, at the Office of the President.
Dr. Nanda Kishore Gopaul was sworn in as the Chair of the PUC, while Justice Beasraj Singh Roy took the oath as Chair of the Public Service Appellate Tribunal. This appointment comes in the wake of the passing of former Chair, Justice Nandram Kissoon, which had left a vacant position in the tribunal.
In addition, the ceremony saw the swearing in of Mr. Hydar Ally and Ms. Abiola Wong-Inniss as members of the tribunal. During the ceremony, President Ali emphasized the significance of the tribunal in upholding fairness and maintaining the integrity of the public service. He commended the pivotal role of the PUC, recognizing its paramount importance to both consumers and businesses.
The President also underscored the government’s commitment to serving the people, guided by sound economic planning, purposeful policies, and good governance.
The event was attended by Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d), the Honourable Mark Phillips; Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, the Honourable Anil Nandlall; and other esteemed Cabinet Members. Additionally, notable figures such as Chair of the Constitution Reform Commission, Justice Carl Singh, and Commissioner of Information and former Attorney General, Justice Charles Ramson, graced the occasion with their presence.
