Polling Stations across Region Six – East Berbice Corentyne opened their doors at 06 this morning as Members of the Joint Services made their way into the various polling stations that were set up across Region Six to vote for a political party of their choice at the Local Government Election earlier today.
Although Local Government Election is set for June 12, Members of the Joint Services are usually allowed to vote at least a week before the election date. However, The News Desk was told that ranks who were unable to cast their ballot today will be given the opportunity to do so on June 12.
At the polling station located at the New Amsterdam Prison Sports Club, 80 Prison Officers were listed to vote. 344 police officers were listed to vote at the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam along with 10 soldiers. At the Whim polling station, 23 ranks cast their ballots there while 54 did so at the Corriverton Polling Station along with four soldiers.
Region Six Commander, Shivpersaud Bacchus, while noting that there were no hiccups during the voting process for the Joint Services, said that all systems are in place to ensure a smooth electoral process at the various polling stations across the region on June 12.

The main parties contesting the Local Government Elections are the Peoples Progressive Party Civic and the A Partnership for National Unity along with several independent candidates.
