In an official statement released, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has announced a substantial discovery at the Lancetfish-2 appraisal well in the Stabroek Block, marking a significant milestone in Guyana’s oil exploration efforts.
This discovery represents the fourth offshore find in Guyana for the year 2023, further contributing to the nation’s growing oil reserves. It also adds to the tally of 46 discoveries made from 2015 to the present.
The prior discoveries made in 2023, which include Fangtooth SE-1 and Lancetfish-1 in the Stabroek Block, along with the Wei-1 discovery in the Corentyne Block, have showcased Guyana’s increasing potential in the oil and gas sector.
The Lancetfish-2 discovery, situated within the Liza Petroleum Production License area, has revealed an estimated 20 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir, accompanied by an additional approximately 81 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone. This newfound reservoir will undergo a comprehensive appraisal process, consistent with the ongoing appraisal activities carried out for other discoveries within the region.
This latest discovery signifies the continued growth and significance of Guyana’s oil industry, solidifying its position as a key player in the global energy landscape.
