The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has invested millions into the construction of six buildings to house Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) in Region Six, aiming to enhance their operations and independence.
Two of these buildings, for the Hogstye/Lancaster NDC and the Number 64/74 NDC, are already under construction. Speaking at the Regional Democratic Council’s monthly statutory meeting yesterday, Regional Executive Officer Narindra Persaud revealed that tenders have been issued for the construction of four additional buildings.
These will house the Kilcoy/Hampshire, Port Mourant/John, Maida/Tarlogie, and Macedonia/Joppa NDCs.
The News Desk understands that seven more NDC buildings will be constructed across other regions as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen local governance.
Persaud noted that once completed, these new facilities will provide NDCs with greater autonomy, as many currently do not have their own office spaces.
