A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Corporal was today remanded to prison after being charged with the attempted murder of his fiancée.
Philon Edwards, 26, who is stationed at Base Camp Ayanganna, appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. It is alleged that on Friday, November 22, 2024, Edwards attempted to kill his fiancée, 23-year-old Leticia Reynolds, of No. 30 Village, West Coast Berbice. Edwards was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded to prison until December 12, 2024, when the matter will be called again.
The case stems from a domestic incident that left Reynolds hospitalized in serious condition. According to reports, the incident occurred at Reynolds’ home on November 22. Investigations revealed that the couple was involved in an argument which escalated, leading to the attack.
Reynolds sustained multiple injuries and sought help from a relative, who transported her to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital. She was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where she remains under medical care.
Shortly after the incident, Edwards surrendered at the Weldaad Police Station. The matter remains under investigation.
