At just 23 years old, Sufeena Supaul, a native of Auchlyne Village on the Corentyne, has transformed her journey from being a legal clerk to an attorney. Earlier today, she was formally admitted to the bar and will soon begin her legal career in Guyana. Her application was presented by the Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Hon. Anil Nandlall, during a ceremony at the New Amsterdam High Court.

Supaul’s academic path started at Auchlyne Primary School, and after excelling in the National Grade Six Assessment in 2012, she earned a place at Berbice High School. However, she chose to complete her secondary education at JC Chandisingh Secondary School on the Corentyne, where she thrived both academically and in extracurricular activities. She participated in inter-house sports, impromptu speaking competitions, drama, and essay contests, while also serving as Vice President of the student body.
In 2017, Supaul sat 16 subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams, passing all of them and earning the title of valedictorian for her class. This outstanding achievement was just the beginning of her ambitious academic journey.
Upon graduating from secondary school, Supaul sought employment at the Anamayah Law Firm, marking the start of her legal career. Simultaneously, she pursued further studies at the University of Guyana’s Tain Campus, where she obtained a diploma in Public Management with distinction in 2019.
That same year, driven by her thirst for knowledge, Supaul joined the teaching profession as a junior teacher for two years. However, her passion for law remained, and she began pursuing a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Guyana’s Turkeyen Campus, from which she graduated in 2022, again with distinction.
In her heartfelt speech at the admission ceremony, Supaul expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported her throughout her academic journey. She stated, “Upon my admission to the bar, I am looking forward to working alongside successful and accomplished colleagues and aspire to contribute to the legal community in a meaningful manner.”

The Attorney General, in his remarks, highlighted the significance of this moment, noting that Supaul is entering the legal profession at an exciting and transformative time for both the country and the legal sector. He emphasized, “Never in the history of the legal profession are we witnessing so many changes at every level of the spectrum. There is no doubt that Guyana is undergoing a transformation on all fronts, and of course, the legal sector is critical to that transformation.”
Justice Nigel Niles, who presided over the ceremony, provided words of encouragement and guidance to the young attorney that will support her as she embarks on her journey representing clients and practicing law in Guyana.
