The suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Mark Anthony Benjamin was apprehended in Region Six last evening during a police operation.
According to information reaching The News Desk, the suspect, identified as Michael Sampson, also known as “Skinny,” was among six individuals travelling in a motor vehicle when he was observed acting suspiciously. Upon further investigation, police were able to confirm his identity as the suspect wanted in the murder of Benjamin.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF), in a statement issued yesterday, confirmed that Sampson was being sought in relation to the shooting death of Benjamin, which occurred on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at around 18:40 hrs on Norton Street, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.
Investigations reveal that the victim and the suspect were known to each other and had an altercation that escalated, resulting in Sampson allegedly shooting Benjamin in the head. The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Benjamin was pronounced dead shortly afterward. His body is currently at the Memorial Gardens Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
With Sampson now in custody, police say the investigation remains ongoing.
