A suspected thief met a tragic end as he attempted to break into a shop in Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD). The man, identified as ‘Raymond,’ reportedly died after breaking his neck during the attempted burglary.
The incident unfolded when the police received an anonymous call at approximately 6:40 AM on Saturday. The caller informed the authorities that ‘Raymond’ had suffered a neck injury while attempting to break into a shop located in the Jetty Squatting Area of Vreed-en-Hoop, WCD.
A police team promptly responded to the call and arrived at the scene to find ‘Raymond’ positioned atop several drink cases, with his head wedged between a rafter and a concrete wall.
According to the shop owner, he had secured his business at around 9:00 PM the previous night. Several individuals in the area were questioned by the police, and they reportedly confirmed that ‘Raymond’ was a known thief from Goed Fortuin, WBD.
Upon examination of the man’s body, no visible signs of violence were found. ‘Raymond’ was pronounced dead at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. The police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
