Police have arrested a 19-year-old ten-day worker in connection with a brutal chopping incident committed on 45-year-old fisherman, Yogeshwar Tameshar, called “Rishi,” of Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
The incident occurred around 23:00 hrs on Saturday. According to reports, the suspect, identified as Mark Parmanand, called “Chubby,” of Miss Phoebe allegedly entered the victim’s yard armed with a cutlass, ascended the steps, and dealt Tameshar one chop to the face and another to the shoulder before fleeing the scene.
The victim’s wife, 36-year-old housewife Nessaw Nabbi, called “Bibi,” witnessed the attack.
The victim was transported to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was treated and later discharged.
A CCTV canvas of the area was conducted but yielded no footage. However, several persons were interviewed, and based on the information received, police arrested the suspect around 09:30 hrs today at the University of Guyana Tain Campus.
He remains in custody as investigations continue.
