The small community of Tain, Port Mourant, on the Corentyne, has been plunged into mourning following a tragic accident that claimed the life of an 18-year-old resident on Saturday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Parnand Mohan aka Raj of Lot 12, Tain Settlement, Port Mourant.
According to reports, Mohan was on his way to a nearby supermarket, located about six houses away from his home, to purchase beverages when he was struck by a red Honda Vezel vehicle. Eyewitnesses allege that the car, which was reportedly racing another vehicle along the Corentyne Highway, lost control before hitting Mohan.
The impact of the collision flung Mohan approximately 200 feet away, leaving him with severe injuries. He was immediately picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigations are ongoing.
