During a recent visit to the predominantly agricultural community earlier this year, Dr. Ashni Singh, the Senior Minister within the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and Public Service, made a significant announcement regarding the provision of electricity to the area.
Subsequently, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) has initiated the installation of utility poles that will serve as the foundation for the future installation of electrical wiring. This marks a crucial milestone in the community’s electrification process.
Speaking with the media, Regional Executive Officer Narindra Persaud underscored the government’s dedication to bringing electricity to New Forest in Canje as part of a broader initiative aimed at ensuring universal access to electricity for all communities across the country.
This ambitious project will cover a distance of approximately 6 kilometers, benefiting over 30 households in New Forest. The proactive efforts by the Government to ensure the community’s access to electricity have been met with satisfaction from several residents.
The timely implementation of this initiative is in accordance with President Ali’s directive that all communities in close proximity to the national grid and with a sufficient population will be provided with electricity. As a result, residents in New Forest are optimistic about accessing electricity in the near future.
