The Police in Berbice are investigating a serious accident that took place at about 08 hours 35 on Dun Robin Public Road #19 East Coast Berbice today.
The accident involved Motor Lorry GYY 183, owned by Ashook Balkaran, age 62, and driven by Ashif Singh, age 28, and Hire Car HC 7693 owned by Raunda Michelle Griffith and driven by Leroy, age 54, with passenger Martin Bakker, age 55.
The News Desk understands that motor Car HC 7693 was traveling east at a fast rate in the northern drive lane, while Motor Lorry GYY 183 was heading west also at a fast rate in the southern drive lane. It is alleged that the motor lorry experienced a blowout on the front right-side tire, causing the driver to lose control, veer onto the northern side of the road, and collide with the motor car.
As a result, all occupants sustained injuries and were transported to New Amsterdam Public Hospital. The motor lorry’s driver was admitted for observation due to head and chest injuries, while the driver of the motor car suffered fractures in both legs, and the car’s passenger sustained a broken left rib.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
