A nine-month-old baby girl, Eli Surujnarine, has died following a tragic hit-and-run accident on Sunday evening (March 2, 2025) along the Line Path Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
Her mother, 19-year-old Kavita Bedesee, remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital, while her father, 17-year-old Tushan Surujnarine, is in critical condition at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
According to reports, Tushan was riding an electric cycle with Eli and Kavita as pillion riders when a white Fielder wagon struck them from behind, causing them to crash onto the roadway. The driver fled the scene.
The injured family was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital and later transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Unfortunately, baby Eli succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning (March 3) while en route to Georgetown.
Police have since located the suspected vehicle, but the driver remains at large as investigations continue.
