In a devastating incident on Friday, a Venezuelan national, identified as Richard LaSado, aged 47, lost his life in a destructive early morning fire that consumed a residence in Plantain Walk, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
The fire, reported to have ignited at approximately 03:31hrs, resulted in the complete destruction of the house owned by Bernadette Gordon. Fortunately, Gordon managed to escape unharmed.
Upon receiving the distress call, two fire tenders rushed to the scene. However, the intensity of the blaze had already fully engulfed the structure by the time they arrived, and no valuables could be salvaged.
Tragically, the Venezuelan victim, Richard LaSado, succumbed to the flames. The fire also caused damage to two neighboring buildings.
Fire Chief Gregory Wickham reported that investigators are currently at the scene working to determine the cause of the fire. The community mourns the loss as they await further details about this unfortunate incident.
