For 64-year-old Geeta Khan, returning to her homeland was more than just a sentimental journey; it was a mission to give back and help shape Guyana’s future. After spending 45 years in Canada working tirelessly to provide for her family, the former bank executive has invested millions into a state-of-the-art hotel in the Ancient County of Berbice, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
Khan, originally from Betsy Ground in Canje, made the bold decision to sell her home, take a loan, and utilize her savings to establish Tropical Suite Hotel at Number 2 Village, East Canje, Berbice. The facility, which promises a tropical oasis in the region, is expected to offer world-class hospitality, blending luxury with the warmth of Guyanese culture.

Businesswoman, Geeta Khan
“This is a dream come true for me,” Khan expressed in an interview. “When I was growing up, I saw so many women struggling to find jobs, and I always told myself that one day, I would do something about it.”
Her journey was anything but easy. As a single mother for over 20 years, she juggled raising her children while pursuing financial stability. She worked at the Bank of Toronto and even became a real estate agent, saving diligently to make her vision a reality. Despite the challenges, she remained focused on her goal of one day returning to Guyana to contribute to its transformation. Inspired by the rapid development taking place in the country, she felt it was the perfect time to invest.
“Guyana has always been home to me,” she said. “And now that I see the progress happening, I wanted to be part of it. Our president is doing a fantastic job with the development, especially in this area, and I knew this was my opportunity.”
Situated just a village away from Palmyra, where major projects like an international stadium, mall, hospital, and housing developments are underway, the Tropical Suite Hotel aims to meet the growing demand for high-quality accommodations in Berbice. The hotel boasts king- and queen-sized air-conditioned rooms that are spacious, private, and fully furnished with modern amenities for ultimate comfort. It also features a bar, conference room, restaurant, courtyard, and pool, offering an all-encompassing experience for guests.

Khan emphasized that service will be her top priority, with a menu offering a mix of Guyanese, Canadian, and American cuisine to cater to both local and international visitors. “I can guarantee that your stay here will be memorable. You will have a very good time,” she assured.
Her investment is not just about business; it’s about creating opportunities. By establishing the hotel, she hopes to generate employment and empower the people of Berbice, especially women, to build better futures for themselves.
The Tropical Suite Hotel is set to officially open its doors soon. However, guests are already welcome to visit and enjoy its services, as the hotel is open for business.
