Police in Regional Division 4C have arrested two suspects involved in separate armed robberies on the East Coast of Demerara on Monday night. The incidents took place at Clonbrook and Ogle, both leaving victims shaken and robbed of valuable possessions.
The first robbery occurred at a barbershop in Clonbrook around 6:50 p.m. The victims included a 30-year-old barber and two customers.
According to reports, four men arrived at the shop. One entered first, posing as a customer seeking a haircut, while the other three, masked and armed, soon followed. The gunmen pointed their weapons at the victims, forcing them to surrender two gold chains valued at one million dollars, $25,000 in cash from the barber, and $180,000 in cash along with two mobile phones from the customers. After the robbery, the suspects fled the scene in a car.
An alarm was raised, and police patrols were quickly alerted. The vehicle was later spotted in the BV area, where a bike patrol unit pursued it. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot, but police managed to apprehend the driver. The search is ongoing for the other suspects involved in the Clonbrook heist.
The second armed robbery took place around 8:30 p.m. on the Ogle Embankment. A 25-year-old female security guard was walking in the area when six men arrived on three motorcycles. One of the men pointed a gun at her and demanded her belongings. The security guard was forced to hand over $25,000 in cash, a gold chain, and a cell phone valued at $60,000 before the suspects sped away.
Shortly after the incident, police managed to arrest one of the suspects. Both cases remain under investigation as authorities continue their search for additional suspects and gather evidence.
