The Police in Berbice are investigating an alleged chopping and shooting incident that occurred between 02 hours 15 and 03 hours on Sunday which involved two groups of males between the ages of 24 to 30 years within the vicinity of the Onyx Lounge located at Pitt Street New Amsterdam, Berbice.
The News Desk understands that the men were at the night club imbibing, when an argument ensued between a member of each group which resulted in a member of one of the group being chopped about the body and another from the other group being hospitalized after he was shot about the body.
Following the incident, the police acting on information received at about 05 hours 45, went to the home of a 26-year-old unemployed male of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice where he was questioned by the team of police as it relates to a suspected firearm that was took away from a male during the shooting and chopping incident at Pitt Street.
While at the house, the police recovered a .32 pistol with an empty magazine in a clump of bushes. The firearm was dusted for latent print, photographed, marked, and lodged as the investigation continue. Four persons were also taken into custody in relation to both incidents.
Meanwhile, the Onyx Lounge issued a statement indicating that it will conduct a thorough review of its security protocols and staff training to ensure that they are better equipped to handle and prevent such situations moving forward.
