Law enforcement authorities are conducting an investigation into a fatal accident that occurred at approximately 07:45 hours on Friday, September 13, 2024, along the Lusignan Railway Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara. The incident tragically resulted in the death of an unidentified female of mixed ethnicity.
Preliminary inquiries reveal that the accident took place in the vicinity of Lusignan Prison Road and involved Motor Lorry GAE 3066, which was being operated by 29-year-old Brian Aron Lee, a resident of Burma, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.
According to reports, the motor lorry was traveling westward along the Lusignan Railway Embankment Road when a bystander alerted the driver that a pedal cyclist had come into contact with the vehicle. In response, Mr. Lee reportedly pulled the vehicle to the side and immediately halted. Upon exiting the vehicle, he observed the victim lying motionless on the roadway.
Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene, where the female victim was pronounced dead. Her body has since been transported to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
A breathalyzer test administered to the driver indicated a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.00%, ruling out alcohol impairment as a factor in the incident. Mr. Lee remains in police custody and is cooperating with ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
